Wedding Tips (Example)
Wedding Cake Ideas
If you don’t have any original ideas of your own, you can look through bridal magazines or websites to find some unique styles. If you have a theme, look for something to complement it. If you know that you want something special but don’t know exactly what, take the time to do some research or ask around for something that is truly yours.
Importance of the Wedding Cake
Never in your life will a dessert be quite so important. Remember that the wedding cake isn’t just a sweet treat, but also a centerpiece of your big day. You want your wedding cake to make a statement and be a reflection of your style as a couple. Take the time to plan for and create something truly special.
Finding a Potential Bakery
When you go to meet with potential bakers for your wedding cake, be sure to ask plenty of questions. Ask about the cost, the flavors, the artistic ability, the staff, and of course the logistics of getting your cake to the reception venue. It helps to go through a referral from a trusted source so that you’re sure to get the wedding cake that you really want.
A Groom’s Cake
One of the hottest trends in wedding cakes right now is the groom’s cake. This is an individual cake made in honor of something that’s of great interest to the groom. Many brides have these created as a surprise in the shape of a football or something fun pertaining to the groom’s hobbies. A nice tribute that makes the day fun!
Cake Tasting
One of the best parts of the wedding planning is the cake tasting. When you go into your selected bakery to taste cake samples, you want to be looking for the flavor, how moist it is, and the texture itself. Go in prepared to pick your best and have fun with this delicious part of the wedding planning!
Cake Flavors
Don’t be afraid to ask about unusual flavors, even if your bakery doesn’t have them on their list. If you have a favorite flavor, no matter how unusual, it’s worth asking about it. Often times if you describe it, then you can develop something to suit your taste.
Flowers on Your Wedding Cake
One of the most elegant and classic touches on a wedding cake is fresh flowers. It’s nice to add in flowers that you are using in your bouquets and centerpieces throughout the day. Coordinate your florist with your baker to be sure that both know what each needs to bring, and how it needs to be set up the day of.
Type of Baker
You will find that there are standard bakeries that people typically use, and then those who create wedding cakes out of their home. Both can offer beautiful cakes, but be sure you are confident in the abilities before hiring somebody. A home baker can usually supply a cake at a much lower cost, but be sure that you see some samples and know they can get the job done.
Sheet Cake in the Kitchen
If you want to cut costs but still have a beautiful wedding cake to show, consider having a sheet cake in the kitchen. That way you still have a beautiful cake to show but perhaps not so much to feed all the guests. Then the staff can slice up the sheet cake in the kitchen to serve to guests. Cost savings at its best!
No Cake for Dessert
Some couples would rather serve something else for dessert at their wedding. This means they can get a smaller cake and use it to simply slice up for any guests that choose to take it home with them. Then they serve dessert that comes with the meal or that is their favorite to the guests at the reception.
Cutting the Cake
Many couples are opting to cut the cake as a married couple before dinner starts. This provides a good photo opp and allows people to be sure to see you actually cut the cake. Be sure that your photographer and DJ know about this so that they can be prepared and make the announcements to the guests.
Cake Cutting Etiquette
If you don’t want your beloved to cover your pretty face in wedding cake, be sure to discuss that ahead of time. Cutting the cake together is a favorite wedding tradition. However you can do so without making a mess and go for the cute frosting on the nose instead.
Cake Logistics
Be sure that your baker knows when they can get into the reception venue and where they will set it up. Coordinating between the reception venue and the baker can be quite important so that timeframes are established and you can rest assured that your cake will greet you at the reception when you get there.
Nice Touches on the Cake Table
Take your cake table to the next step by adding special touches. Displaying pictures of the two of you as a couple, or even of special people that have passed away can add in a special touch. Be sure to add a splash of color or accent with some flowers, ribbon, or decoration of some type.
Staff and the Cake
Be sure that the staff at the reception venue knows their role in cutting and serving the cake. Also be sure to keep an eye out for any extra costs that this will present as some reception venues charge a cake cutting or serving fee. Be sure you are aware of any costs like this ahead of time.
Saving the Top Layer of Your Cake
Couples traditionally save the top layer of their wedding cake to eat together on their one year anniversary. Be sure that somebody at the reception venue is in charge of packaging and then transporting this top layer for you. Then be sure to find room in the freezer to store this delicious treat to enjoy together in a year.
Package It To Go
Many guests like to take a piece of wedding cake home with them to enjoy the next day. Be sure that your reception venue is prepared to slice up some slices and put in either boxes or napkins that you supply so that they can put these out at the end of the reception. A tasty treat for guests to enjoy the day after!
