Upromise Poor EMAIL Opt-Out Options

0

Big companies should know better.

EMAIL novices make these kind of mistakes, but I have to believe the bigger companies with resources to properly manage email marketing campaigns do this on purpose - to make it difficult, or impossible, to get off their email marketing lists.

Case in point: Upromise

The college savings “program.”

Upromise is practicing trickery to make it difficult to unsubscribe from their email blasts, in my opinion. And my experience trying to opt-out of their list is the basis for my thinking.

I don’t want their email messages anymore. Frankly, all UPromise is is a junk emailer. Rarely did I get advice related to saving for college or any real valuable information about college planning. I got a lot of offers from “partners” but that’s about it.

Actually, I could have sworn I opted-out last year. But now I’m getting email again from them. This is happening a lot - mysteriously getting email after opting out some time in the past - months, even years.

So I tried to opt out  (again)- and I’m a pretty computer saavy guy.

When I follow the link they offer, in their latest email, this is the page I’m directed to (below).

1) No clear instructions

2) Confusing - how do I actually opt-out?

3) Shameful and poor email marketing from what is supposed to be a reputable company

4) No landing page that confirms what I just did… just a login page. I’m saying to myself: “What just happened?”

5) No confirming email (i.e. You have unsubscribed…)

If you’re going to use email marketing give subscribers a one-click “you’re off our list” option.

Forget the shannigans that confuse people and frustrate people who are trying to unsubscribe from your list.

Better still, give people valuable information that they will actually use and find helpful - not just stuff their email box with more junk offerings from your “partners.” (i.e. spam)

Upromise is just another Internet spammer in my book.
