Should You Get Nervous About Google’s Caffeine?
Before the world goes crazy and your webmaster tells you “big changes are coming at Google…” which just might be enough to take you over the edge… here’s the REAL story with Google Caffeine.
Google Caffeine is the name of a project at Google that relates to how they index and rank web pages. Over the summer they announced changes were coming.
Reality check: nobody really knows what is going to happen.
And Google, as always, isn’t saying much. Nor will they.
If I had to guess, I’d say good pages and good websites, that were designed well and optimized for search engines, won’t be affected at all (i.e. their ranking and positioning).
I also think that Google is going to tap into what is going on and being discussed (i.e. keywords/phrases) and linked to in the social media sphere (Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Technorati, Digg) and I’ve already seen it on search engine results pages.
There is no doubt that real-time search is coming to Google as well as other search engines. Yes, one more thing to be thinking about as part of your overall Internet marketing strategy.
Don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger.
Google from time to time makes changes in how it evaluates websites and web pages. This should be no big surprise.
As a result of these “changes” to its algorithm (ranking system), some pages may fall from their current positions and lose rank.
But if your website and pages are optimized using Google’s own webmaster guidelines and…
1) Are relevant to a search performed
2) Have the appropriate keywords and keyword phrases on your page(s) to support its relevancy
3) Have well optimized page title tags with your targeted keywords and keyword phrases
4) Have a solid navigation system that links each page and Google can follow or “crawl” easily
5) Have a Google Sitemap in place and have it registered with Google in your Google Webmaster Tools control panel (i.e. optimized crawlability)
6) You have been building inbound links to your website from your own blog as well as other sources that have a similar theme to your website (i.e. wedding site to wedding site vs. car repair shop to wedding site)
7) You aren’t messing around using any black hat SEO techniques
… I wouldn’t worry much.
Actually, I wouldn’t worry at all.
You won’t see any changes until after the holidays, according to Google.
And if you have 1-7 in place, as part of your overall Internet marketing strategy, chances are you won’t see any changes in your positioning at all.
Actually, some of you might see better positioning as the rift-raft gets tossed out. Yea!!
